Ultramarathon Man by Dean Karnazes, (here on Amazon)

I hold this book responsible for my interest in ultra marathons; and furthermore I actually hold Stephen responsible, since he was the one who gave me the book! I had just started to run again, after having had an almost 10 year long break. I got hold of the Ultramarathon man, and I knew I wanted to do this. I wanted to run seemingly impossible distances, only to prove to myself that it was possible.

The book really tick all boxes. I still hold it as one of the more inspirational books about ultra running that I have read. Dean comes across as a normal guy who just one day decides to start running longer and longer distances. His tales from the Western States made me want to be there and experience the race.

If you are new to ultra running and want to try to understand what it is about, without having to become to scientific about it, then I can say that the Ultramarathon man would be a great book to start with.

A 9 out of 10 – definitely one to read!
