Why did I choose to drink both Sauterne and Port after dinner last night? The question was banging my head on my way to swimming this morning. The rain was beating down and gone was the spring sun that had been kind to me on yesterday’s 30km run.
After 1h40min in the pool it was time to head back home. The thought of having to take on those wet clothes again and get out on the road in the rain was not a pleasant one. Once out I realised that I would have head wind and the rain was throwing small darts into my eyes, or at least that is what it felt like.
Yesterday’s dinner topic came back to me, we had discussed why people get into ultra marathons. Riding my bike back home I was certain as to why I keep doing them – Joie de vivre. Feeling alive and even though it was not my most comfortable ride, I knew that this was why I was still doing ultras. To know that even when it is hard and tough, and it would have been easy to cancel (ask Daniela what I looked like when I left the house this morning, probably something like a sulking dog *smile*), I stuck with it.
Namibia 24h Ultra coming up in about 4 weeks and I feel ready. Ready to face the race again, both physically, and mentally. These rides in the less fortunate weather is for sure character bulding.
So next time there is Sauterne and Port on the table, rather than choosing I will ask for a second glass!
